Atrial Myxoma; Right
Atrial myxoma is a condition of benign tumor, which is found in either upper right side of the heart. The tumor grows on the atrial septum wall, which separates 2 sides of the heart. Myxoma is considered as most common type of rare tumors. Approximately 75% of myxoma occurs in the left side of the heart (atrium) and rest occurs at right atrium. The condition is common in women.

A myxoma is cardiac tumor that started within the heart. Although, most of the tumor starts with the somewhere else, primary heart tumors are rare and start from the heart only. The condition runs in families and such tumors are known as familial myxoma.

The symptoms of atrial myxoma can occur anytime. Some of the common symptoms are:

- Fainting
- Chest pain
- Shortness of breath while performing activity
- Palpitations
- Fever, cough
- Joint pain
- Swelling in body parts

The tumor is removed surgically. In some cases, mitral valve gets replaced. The valve gets replaced during surgery. It can happen that myxoma may come back if all the tumor cells are not removed in the surgery. |
